This course provides a comprehensive introduction to the core modeling and prototyping techniques used by business analysts in professional practice. Students begin by exploring lightweight prototyping methods, learning how to create conceptual mockups, storyboards, and wireframes using industry-standard tools such as Visio, PowerPoint, and Balsamiq. From there, the course moves into requirements modeling, covering a range of techniques including context diagrams, flowcharts, swim lane diagrams, and data flow diagrams.
The second half of the course introduces students to Unified Modeling Language (UML), a widely used framework in business analysis and software development. Students learn how to build use case diagrams, write use case narratives, and develop user stories — all of which are essential skills for communicating requirements between business stakeholders and technical teams. Hands-on class exercises are incorporated throughout, giving students practical experience applying these techniques in realistic scenarios.
